The Clinical Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal Education and Training Program

The COMET Program (an NIH-funded T32) is intended to train highly qualified pre- and post-doctoral trainees in rigorous clinical research methodology to address pressing problems relating to orthopaedic and musculoskeletal disorders.

Brigham Coordinating Center

In collaboration with the Arthritis Foundation’s OA Clinical Trials Network (OACTN) OrACORe’s Brigham Coordinating Center (BriCC) provides leadership for the design, conduct, and analysis of clinical trials in persons at risk for post-traumatic knee osteoarthritis.

Corticosteroid Meniscectomy Randomized Trial

The CoMeT trial aims evaluate the efficacy of extended-release triamcinolone (Zilretta) for the relief of knee pain and function after an arthroscopic partial meniscectomy

The Frailty Policy Model

FraPol uses decision analysis modeling methods to evaluate and assess the burden of physical frailty.

Inflammation and Osteoarthritis at the Brigham

INFORM examines the interplay of inflammation and obesity in the development and progression of osteoarthritis using ultrasound and synovial fluid aspiration.

Knee Arthroplasty Activity Trial

KArAT aims to assess whether personalized guidance from a health coach coupled with financial rewards can effectively increase physical activity post-total knee replacement.

Meniscal Tear in Osteoarthritis Research

MeTeOR is our randomized controlled trial of surgical (arthroscopic partial meniscectomy) vs. non-surgical (physical therapy) treatment for meniscal tear.

Osteoarthritis Policy Model

Our research team built and validated a state-transition computer simulation model to evaluate the epidemiological factors that impact knee OA and the societal burden caused by the disease.

Osteoarthritis Registry of Biomarker and Imaging Trajectories

In order to better understand how osteoarthritis of the knee changes over time and how it affects the lives of patients, we are creating a registry of osteoarthritis patients to collect data on the progression of their disease.

Pilot Research Incubation and Development Program

The overarching goal of this program is to provide seed funding and methodologic support for innovative and rigorous clinical and translational research in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at BWH.

Treatment for Meniscal Problems and OA

TeMPO is a multi-center randomized controlled trial that aims to evaluate non-operative, non-pharmacological treatment for persons with meniscal tear in the setting of knee osteoarthritis.

The Osteoarthritis Prevention Trial

TOPS is a multi-center randomized controlled trial that evaluates knee osteoarthritis prevention strategies in at-risk females compared to a control population.
